HARPOCRATES Research Presented at PST 2023 Conference in Copenhagen

On 21 August 2023, the HARPOCRATES project was featured at the 20th Annual International Conference on Privacy, Security & Trust (PST 2023), held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference brought together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to discuss the latest advances in data protection and secure technologies.

Tanveer Khan, representing Tampere University, presented the paper titled “Love or Hate? Share or Split? Privacy-Preserving Training Using Split Learning and Homomorphic Encryption.” The paper explores how combining split learning with homomorphic encryption allows training of machine learning models on sensitive data while maintaining strong privacy guarantees.

The presentation focused on methods developed within HARPOCRATES to support collaborative data analysis across institutions, particularly in contexts where regulations prevent raw data sharing. The approach enables encrypted model training and inference, which is directly applicable to the project’s use cases in healthcare and cybersecurity.

Participation in PST 2023 contributed to HARPOCRATES’ scientific dissemination efforts and helped engage with the broader privacy and security research community.
