Building Trust in AI: Highlights from the European AI & Cybersecurity CrossTalk Event

28.10.2024 13:54

The recent European AI & Cybersecurity Network CrossTalk event in Brussels brought together several projects dedicated to addressing key challenges in data security and AI privacy. Held at the Emilia-Romagna Delegation to the EU, the event covered a range of practical topics, such as cloud security, privacy-enhancing technologies, and the adoption of federated learning for secure medical data sharing. These sessions provided a valuable exchange of ideas among European projects focused on creating effective tools and frameworks for data protection.

During the event, the Harpocrates Project was represented by Antonis Michalas from Tampere University, who presented “HARPOCRATES: Creating a Pervasive, Efficient, and Private Future.” Antonis shared Harpocrates’ approach to developing privacy-focused solutions that prioritize data integrity and trustworthiness, especially in areas like healthcare. The project aims to ensure that as AI technology advances, data privacy and security remain central, providing practical applications that safeguard user information.

Alongside Harpocrates, other significant projects such as FLUTE Project – AI & Prostate Cancer, ENCRYPT Project, ONCOVALUE, TRUMPET PROJECT – AI & CYBERSECURITY , TITAN EOSC, EOSC Siesta, AI4EOSC, PAROMA-MED Project, KATY  addressed related themes. Their sessions covered methods for preventing data leaks, developing privacy-preserving frameworks for enhanced data usability, and creating secure environments for handling sensitive information. Each project brought forward specific solutions and challenges, fostering a collaborative environment where participants could share knowledge and approaches to common issues in data protection.

By featuring projects like Harpocrates and its partners, the CrossTalk event highlighted the importance of collective efforts in building secure, efficient, and user-friendly privacy solutions. This gathering reinforced a shared commitment to practical advances in AI and cybersecurity, where collaboration across projects can lead to a stronger, more secure digital landscape for Europe and beyond.
