HARPOCRATES VOICES – Matthew Salanitro

Matthew Salanitro is a researcher at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe’s largest university hospitals and a leading institution in medical research and patient care. His work focuses on applying digital health solutions and data-driven methods to clinical contexts, with a particular emphasis on sleep medicine.

At Charité, Matthew is involved in projects that combine clinical expertise with advanced computational approaches to improve diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of sleep-related disorders. His professional background spans both research and applied healthcare, enabling him to bridge the gap between clinical requirements and technical innovation.

His research interests include privacy-preserving data analysis, clinical data integration, and secure digital health infrastructures. He has contributed to initiatives that explore how sensitive health data can be analysed responsibly, ensuring compliance with strict ethical and legal frameworks while supporting meaningful medical insights.

Within the HARPOCRATES project, Matthew leads the Sleep Medicine Demonstrator, which investigates how advanced cryptographic techniques can be applied to sleep medicine. The demonstrator focuses on enabling clinicians and researchers to securely process and share sensitive sleep-related data, supporting new insights into patient care while maintaining strong safeguards for privacy.

Through this work, he demonstrates how privacy-preserving technologies can advance secure and trustworthy digital health solutions, directly contributing to HARPOCRATES’s mission of addressing real-world challenges in healthcare through applied cryptography and privacy engineering.
