Alexandros Bakas and Eugene Frimpong from Tampere University (TUNI) represented HARPOCRATES at the 9th International Conference on IoT, Big Data and Security (IoTBDS 2024), held on 28–30 April 2024 in Angers, France.
IoTBDS is an international conference focused on research and innovation in Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, and security. It brings together academics, researchers, and industry experts to present advances that can shape the future of secure and efficient connected systems.
Research Contribution
At the conference, Alexandros Bakas and Eugene Frimpong presented the paper: “Need for Speed: Leveraging the Power of Functional Encryption for Resource-Constrained Devices.”
The paper explores how functional encryption (FE) can be optimized for environments with limited computational and storage resources, such as IoT devices. Functional encryption enables fine-grained access control over encrypted data, but its performance requirements often pose challenges for deployment on lightweight devices. This research demonstrates practical ways to reduce complexity and resource demands, making FE more suitable for real-world IoT applications.
Connection to HARPOCRATES
The HARPOCRATES project is developing advanced methods to enhance confidentiality and resilience in AI-driven systems. By addressing performance and deployment challenges of functional encryption, this research supports HARPOCRATES’s objective of enabling privacy-preserving technologies in domains where devices operate under strict resource constraints.
