Antonis Michalas is an Associate Professor at Tampere University in Finland, where he leads the Network and Information Security Group (NISEC) at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. His research focuses on applied cryptography, privacy-preserving computation, and secure data sharing. With a strong academic background and years of international experience, he is actively engaged in advancing techniques that allow sensitive data to be processed securely without compromising individual privacy.
He holds a PhD in Information and Communication Systems Engineering from the University of the Aegean. Over the years, he has held research positions at several institutions including Karlstad University in Sweden, the University of Westminster in the UK, and Microsoft Research in Cambridge. His research contributions span areas such as homomorphic encryption, secure multi-party computation, and privacy-aware analytics, with applications in healthcare, digital services, and distributed systems.
Antonis has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, with over 70 academic papers to his name. In addition to his research, he is actively involved in teaching and supervision at Tampere University, where he lectures on cryptographic protocols, system security, and privacy engineering. He also supervises PhD students working on the design and implementation of secure systems for real-world use.
In the HARPOCRATES project, he brings his cryptographic expertise to the development of secure data analytics frameworks. His work focuses on Hybrid Homomorphic Encryption and Functional Encryption as tools for enabling analysis on encrypted data, ensuring that private information remains protected throughout the computational process.
